Bormio Thermal
Baths
3 thermal centres: something for everyone
The Baths of Bormio: a historical combination since ancient times.
9 springs and 3 spas for a unique relax-area in the Alps.
The Baths of Bormio are an almost unique heritage in the Alps: in fact, there are very few small Alpine villages that can enjoy so many natural thermal sources, 9, and 3 spas open to the public in just a few kilometers.
The thermal waters of Bormio and their curative properties have been known since ancient times: Pliny the Elder, in fact, mentions them in his “Naturalis Historia”. It was, therefore, already from the early Middle Ages that the habitants of Bormio began to exploit them with the construction of the buildings of the Bagni Vecchi, of which today only the walls remain.
Since then tourists from every corner of Europe came to Bormio, especially for the well-known healing properties of the thermal water.
The 9 thermal springs of the Terme di Bormio
The thermal water, which flows from the slopes of Mount Reit, has a temperature between 38° and 41° C with maximum peaks in the winter and spring months. Each of the 9 thermal springs has a name that evokes characters and peoples of antiquity, although their origin seems to date back only to the early 1800s.
Near the Bagni Vecchi there is a natural cave: a tunnel through which you access a clearing, where the hot thermal waters come out. The three phases that allow access, based on the temperature, have also been defined, since ancient times, as Paradise, Purgatory and the Infirm.
The healing properties of the Bormio thermal baths
The thermal baths of Bormio have been known since ancient times for their special properties that generate benefits for the health, aesthetics and well-being of people.
The curative effect of these “miraculous” waters is emphasized thanks to the high rate of natural elements with which the waters are enriched during their underground journey and to the high natural temperature, which is explained by the phenomenon of the geothermal gradient. The thermal waters of Bormio, in fact, insinuate themselves in depth, between 1000 and 1100 meters, between fractures and permeable layers and here they absorb all the heat necessary to transform them into such sought-after waters.
It is known that the thermal waters of Bormio are effective in the treatment of inflammation of the respiratory and digestive systems, rheumatic diseases and rehabilitation activities, just to name a few uses made of them.
The Baths of Bormio: 3 spas, to each his own!
The 9 thermal springs were exploited, as well as for healing purposes, also for well-being and relaxation and it is above all in this way that, even today, the 3 spas of Bormio are known as wellness centers, each with its specific characteristics. In short, in Bormio, the wellness mountain, you will be spoiled for choice.
Bormio Terme: a concentrate of services for the whole family, but not only!
Not far from the center of Bormio, there is Bormio Terme, a structure full of services, such as beauty, healing, massages, wellness and sports suitable for the whole family and for sportsmen who want to improve their performance.
Bormio Terme with its indoor and outdoor thermal water pools and swimming pool, flanked by places suitable for the relax of adults and reserved only for them, is the right compromise to enjoy the thermal water with the whole family. While the little ones have fun in a paradise built only for them, the adults, taking turns, will also be able to enjoy the many services available in the same structure.
Complete the day with a brunch or a tasty aperitif at the Bistrot Terme.
QC Terme: New and Old Baths
For couples looking for an exclusive and intimate relax, we recommend the Bagni Nuovi or Bagni Vecchi instead.
This last structure was built starting in 1832 on a project by the engineer Donegani, the same who designed the Stelvio road, an engineering work of another historical value. Right from the start, the potential of the Terme di Bormio was discovered, not only from a curative point of view, but also as a place for vacation and relaxation. And so it still is today!
There are few guests who give up a visit to one of the two QC Terme centers. If families prefer Bormio Terme, given that entry to the Bagni Nuovi and Vecchi is forbidden for under 14s, adults thrill from enjoying the idyllic setting of these two structures, always in continuous evolution and alternating indoor and outdoor pools.
Is this the first time you come to Bormio and you don’t know whether to choose Bagni Nuovi and Bagni Vecchi? First of all, we recommend that you visit the respective websites and be inspired, but if the uncertainty remains, our advice is to evaluate according to the season and the weather: if you come on a cold winter day or on a day of bad weather, we recommend the Bagni Vecchi to take advantage of the countless interior spaces; if, on the other hand, you come on a hot summer day or prefer to enjoy the enchanting landscape of Bormio, the Bagni Nuovi is better with a wide choice of spaces and outdoor pools.
